Guiyang has been actively promoting urban renewal since the beginning of this year, focusing on renovating urban villages, aging residential neighborhoods, and key urban areas. The city is upgrading its urban environment and making daily life more convenient for residents by improving policies, streamlining procedures, and increasing investment.

Guiyang has implemented a joint early-stage review process for urban renewal projects to resolve issues related to approvals, funding, and land use. Over 30 projects have already obtained funding support from higher authorities. Additionally, Guiyang has been chosen for the 2026 central government urban renewal program, which is expected to provide up to 1.2 billion yuan ($177.90 million) in subsidies, bolstering its renewal efforts.

The city launched 49 urban village renovation projects from 2024 to 2025, benefiting more than 135,000 residents across 48,000 households. So far, 25 projects have been completed, with 9,714 resettlement homes delivered to residents. Another 17 projects are planned to start in 2026, with priority given to resettlement housing, so residents can move into their new homes sooner.

Renovation of aging residential communities is also progressing. Since 2019, Guiyang has completed 341 such projects, benefiting around 630,000 residents. Improvements have focused on essential infrastructure such as water, electricity, roads, and gas.

Meanwhile, Guiyang is advancing renewal initiatives in key areas, with 71 projects planned covering aging communities and public facilities. These efforts are further improving urban services and living conditions, ensuring that more residents benefit from the city's ongoing urban renewal.
