According to the Guiyang bureau of housing and urban-rural development, Guiyang renovated and upgraded 7,966 substandard urban homes during China's 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), improving residential safety and living conditions.

Guiyang currently has 702,176 residential and commercial buildings across the city. The government has established a comprehensive building archive system covering key information such as location, structural type, and year of construction, providing strong data support for disaster prevention, risk mitigation, and urban governance.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, Guiyang intensified inspections of urban housing, with a particular focus on older buildings, dilapidated structures, and densely populated areas. A total of 767 substandard buildings involving about 8,700 homes were identified, providing a solid data foundation for targeted renovation efforts.

Based on local conditions, Guiyang adopted multiple renovation approaches for the identified homes, including demolition and reconstruction, renovation and expansion, repair and structural reinforcement, as well as incorporation into urban village redevelopment programs.

These measures have addressed housing safety risks, outdated infrastructure, and aging facilities, further improving the city's overall livability.
