On July 12, Congbiyuan Garden in Guanshanhu Park, Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, reopened to the public after a major renovation, launching its first opera event "Preserving the Quintessence of Chinese Culture".
Divided by the Bamian Stream into front and rear sections, Congbiyuan Garden features three stone bridges, winding paths, rockeries, and pavilions that create a tranquil and layered landscape. The garden's performance stage and viewing platform blend traditional woodwork with modern craftsmanship, forming an elegant cultural space dedicated to classical Chinese arts.

The events are co-hosted by Guanshanhu Urban Operation and Development Group and Guizhou Peking Opera Theatre. "We've designed interactive activities around key elements of Peking Opera – singing, reciting, acting, and martial arts – so audiences can fully engage," said Feng Guanbo, director of Guizhou Peking Opera Theatre. "Visitors can sip tea, enjoy live performances, and explore the richness of traditional Chinese culture." According to Feng, more opera showcases are on the way.
A representative from Guanshanhu Urban Operation and Development Group added that weekly opera performances will become a regular Friday ritual, with future plans to include cross talks, tea ceremonies, and ethnic cultural exhibitions.
