In Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, the dream of making the city smarter and life more intelligent has become a reality. In 2022, Guiyang was recognized as a gigabit city, paving the way for digitalization and driving the integration of communication technology and various industries.

5G technology transformed the city into a smart entity, with artificial intelligence, digital twin, smart factory, and autonomous driving applications permeating every aspect of life.

A "gigabit city" is network infrastructure that features 5G and gigabit fiber, characterized by ultra-high broadband, ultra-low latency, and advanced reliability. It supports the development of the digital economy and data economization.

Data showed that by the end of June, Guiyang and Guian had established 2,896 new 5G base stations, with a total of 25,000 5G base stations, accounting for approximately 25 percent of the provincial total.

Continuous 5G coverage was achieved in various districts, county-level cities, counties, and towns, including important transportation hubs, national 5A-level scenic spots, grade-A tertiary hospitals, and universities.

Sixteen key 5G application projects have been launched, covering industrial sectors such as manufacturing, tourism, and transportation.

Guiyang has utilized new technologies, new business models, and new formats to drive continuous innovation in various fields. It has promoted the digital transformation and upgrading of industries such as smart city, 5G+ industrial internet, and intelligent healthcare, thereby achieving industrial digitalization and high-quality economic development.

This year, Guiyang and Guian plan to build 5,000 new 5G base stations, create 30 "5G+" integrated application scenarios, and start construction on a direct optical cable link between Guiyang and Guangzhou.
