Guiyang centered on people to promote urbanization

Guiyang and Guian New Area in Southwest China's Guizhou province have promoted a new urbanization oriented around people since the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20), making the city more suitable for living and working.

From 2016 to 2020, Guiyang built and renovated many main roads, bringing the total length of urban roads to over 2,100 kilometers. Metro line 1 has opened to traffic and metro line 2 is currently under pilot operation. The city has built 18 water source projects covering all counties and townships.

To improve the quality of urban zones, Guiyang has renovated 34.05 million square meters of shanty towns and 2.43 million sq m of old communities. A total of 93,000 people have successfully applied for public rental housing.

Guiyang has established 43 commercial complexes, introduced 543 supply and marketing cooperative offices, and built 317 demonstration villages for a beautiful environment and four national villages for rural tourism.

Guiyang and Guian officially began carrying out integrated development in February 2020. Since then, they have conducted cooperation in resource allocation, industrial development, technological innovation, and infrastructure construction.

In the future, Guiyang and Guian's integrated development area is expected to reach 945 square kilometers and be capable of housing 10 million people. By 2025, Guiyang and Guian's urban area is expected to measure more than 600 sq km and it is expected to have a permanent resident population of 6.3 million people with an urbanization rate of around 80 percent.

Guiyang and Guian will also work to balance the development of education, social security, medical treatment, and senior care services, create a service system for the public to obtain employment and start businesses, and attract more talent.
